This sitz bath recipe was created with the input of a certified herbalist and many very experienced midwives that specialised in home birth wisdom. Some of the wisdom came from First Nation midwives from a reserve in Ontario.
It contains Uva Ursi which prevents urinary tract infections. It also has Shepherds Purse which reduces how much you may bleed afterwards. Comfrey is amazing for regenerating tissue and is so potent that we make you wait 3 days before using it if you have had any stitches so that they heal from the inside out. I also add calendula flowers for the anti inflammatory and soothing effect they have on swollen perineums. Lavender flowers, garlic (no it doesn't smell) and sea salt are added for their anti bacterial component. It removes that itchy feeling too.
This is given to you in dried format with instructions to make it into a strong brewed sitz bath, It can be added to a peri bottle for use each time you use the toilet. It is wonderful to add to the bath and then bring your newborn in with you to heal their unbilical cord stump quickly.
This makes amazing frozen perineal cold pack padsicles for use after birth. It can be used on C-Section wounds after 5 days. I have also used it in home made wipes for my baby if they ever got a nappy rash or sore bum.
